The Brief
Grieves Solicitors is a well-established, SRA-regulated law firm launched in 1997.
The firm specialise exclusively in obtaining compensation for accident victims, including work accident, farm injury, and serious injury victims.
The founder of Grieves Solicitors Personal Injury Specialists, contacted our team in February 2022 enquiring about a full website redesign. The previous two web design agencies she had engaged with were not able to meet the firm’s needs.
The aim was to develop a new website that better reflects the firm and its branding: ‘regulated, friendly, approachable Specialist firm of Accident Solicitors.’
The Challenge
The main challenge of the redesign was that the firm’s original website comprised over 200 pages (not including blogs). A redesign of this type requires careful attention of the designer to SEO. Migrations that don’t account for SEO, ignore existing permalinks and backlinks, or are undertaken with hasty plans can be disastrous for the client. Thus, ensuring the redesign wouldn’t result in any broken pages and ranking losses was very important to our team.
The next challenge was that the Grieves Solicitors’ website was built in an open-source content management system (CMS) Concrete5. Concrete5, being less popular than the WordPress CMS, offers fewer integration options and has a less intuitive design. Our team attempted to access the back-end of the Grieves Solicitors’ website to gain a better overview of the structure and to make sure data doesn’t get misplaced. However, as the website was not regularly updated, we were not able to log in to the CMS and conduct a full audit (and migrate the content to WordPress).
Moreover, we realised that the website’s sitemap was not complete which made the task even more challenging.
At the auditing stage, we also noticed that there were ‘no follow’ ‘no index’ meta tags applied on some of the critical pages. The ‘no follow’ ‘no index’ meta tags prevent the Googlebot from crawling and indexing pages (listing them in search results). One of the affected pages included the firm’s ‘Compensation Calculator’ which the visitors can use to find out how much compensation they can claim following an accident.
“Simply the best.Very helpful, professional and excellent at what they do.I have re-modelled my website 3 times in the last 25 years and Joel and Ewelina have been by far the best. They are honest, knowledgeable and informative. Before they came on the scene, this time I tried two other firms and it was 3rd time lucky with them and I’m so glad I did.”
The Result
Our team led by our SEO expert Ewelina, redesigned the website from scratch while preserving all the URLs / permalinks, the SEO structure of the site, and ultimately, its valuable search engine rankings.

The new website has a more approachable feel and brighter appearance. Our team has created a new menu that follows the user as they scroll down the page.
Instead of stock images, the homepage features photographs of the firm’s founder and various personal messages to create a more personal feel.
The services pages feature new icons, calls to action, and images. The structure has also been completely changed to create a better user experience (UX).
Our team created pages for individual solicitors’ / paralegals’ profiles so that the prospective clients and site visitors can get familiar with the Grieves personal injury team.
– Compensation Calculator
One of the more significant changes in the design includes a complete redesign of the Compensation Calculator.
The new calculator, intended for individuals who have suffered various injuries, can now be read by screen readers.
This ensures that individuals suffering from e.g. visual impairments can also access the calculator.
They were not able to do that using the old calculator.
As a result of the redesign and optimisation of the website, we managed to reduce the number of visitors from abroad and subsequently ‘spam’ enquiries.
While we also recorded a reduction of traffic generated from within the UK (37.39% during the same period in Mar & Jul), the firm has confirmed that the number of enquiries has increased. This is due to providing additional optimisation which resulted in losing some irrelevant keywords and gaining new, relevant ones.
As we added more calls to action to the various pages, the keyword intent has changed; the firm has gained more informational, commercial and transactional keywords.
Shortly after the website’s launch, Ewelina and Joel visited the Grieves Solicitors team in Huddersfield to introduce them to their new CMS WordPress and a free Customer Relationship Manager (CRM) provided together with the website.
We installed the CRM in order to make the new client onboarding process easier and to support the firm as it grows.
