The Brief
Marlow Braide is a small law firm based in Edgeley, Stockport.
The firm is SRA-regulated and offers a comprehensive “one-stop” shop undertaking all types of employment law cases and personal injury, including accident and injury claims, holiday sickness, and medical negligence.
We were contacted by the firm’s founder following a referral from one of our partners as the firm needed help with their website.
The Challenge
The website design was outdated and promoted services the firm no longer provided. It was important that these were removed to avoid the firm having to turn away enquiries.
The original website design was also missing basic search engine optimisation – page meta descriptions, H1 headers (page titles), H2 and H3 level headers (subheadings), image alternative descriptions, and other significant features.
In terms of the look, the pages appeared crowded with images behind text, irregular columns, and sections lacking spacing.
The firm’s hadn’t retouched the website since it was published.
During our initial chat with the founder, we learned that its designers refused to make amendments to the site and instead offered a full-redesign of the website which was too costly for the firm.
Upon logging in to the back-end of the website, we found out that the WordPress theme it was using was not regularly updated. Our team, therefore, needed to rectify this before we could start amending the design.
It is important to update your theme on a regular basis to ensure your website:
- remains secure – updates often include security patches,
- has all the newest features – to leverage the full potential of the theme,
- performs well and runs on maximum performance – many updates are focused on reducing the weight and HTTP of a theme so it loads faster.
The Result
Our team worked on the website over the course of approx. 3 months. We began our work by making a backup copy of the website, then updating the theme.
Once the theme was fully up to date, we began making amendments to the homepage, about us page, contact page, and then the individual service pages.
Our team made sure that the website remained live throughout the process in case any prospective clients needed to verify the firm or wanted to make an enquiry. We kept in touch with the founder to ensure she was happy with the new look of the website.
At the core of the design was making sure that the website is friendly for smaller devices.
Our focus was also making sure that the site meets basic search engine requirements and is ready for any future SEO work and/or PPC advertising should the firm wish to market their services online.
